Croatia offers visitors a charming blend of old and new. Its emergence as a serious tourism destination since independence from the former Yugoslavia is no surprise. The spirit and friendliness of its citizens, combined with great value, beautiful scenery and over 300 days of sunshine per year make for a wonderful combination.
We have four distinct cycling tours in Croatia, all fully escorted, exploring the shoreline and islands along Croatia's Adriatic coast.
Countless islands in crystal clear water, deeply fissured cliffs, picturesque beaches and numerous small bays – that is the Kvarner Bay in the northern Adriatic. Every island is different. Each has its own history. You can spend a week discovering the landscape and people of this unique island-world by bike - independently and with the aid of knowledgeable tour guides.
On a romantic motor yacht - your floating accomodation - discover the charm of the Adriatic in your own special way. You cycle off after a hearty breakfast. At midday meet the ship at a harbour for lunch. In the evening the ship will be waiting in the next harbour, so that you can enjoy fantastic cuisine as the sun sets, followed by a stroll through the historic harbour town. Finally, settle down in your cabin to sleep - or stay on deck under a thousand stars...
Monday: The islands of Cres and Lošinj (approx. 55 km / 34 mi. by bicycle)
Your ship will bring you in the morning to Martinscica. From there you will cycle on the east side of the island among pine, fig and laurel trees to Osor, the artists town, where you will have lunch on the ship.
Afterwards there will be time for a swim in the bay with its crystal clear water. In the afternoon you will leave Osor, crossing over a swing bridge to reach the island of Lošinj. You will cycle along the panorama-route to Mali Lošinj, an old seafaring and health resort. The ship will be waiting for you in the large harbour with its numerous cafés and colourful houses. You will spend the night in the harbour of Mali Lošinj.
Tuesday:
The islands of Lošinj and Molat (approx. 40 km / 25 mi. by bicycle)
Along the seaside walk you cycle to the south of Lošinj and visit the picturesque small harbour of Veli Lošinj before you will meet the ship for lunch. In the afternoon you cross over to the island of Molat, where you will do one more short cycling tour. Overnight stay in the quiet harbour of Molat.
While you have breakfast, the ship will take off and take you past many small islands to the “spice island” of Dugi Otok. Your bike-tour will start in the bay of Bozava, which is surrounded by woods of pine, agave and tamarisk trees, and you will ride on a road nearly free of traffic. In the harbour of Savar you will meet the boat for lunch. While cycling in the afternoon to the fishermen village of Sali you will be impressed by the terrific views on the deep-blue sea and the surrounding islands.
After a cruise until lunchtime, you will reach the island of Pag. In the harsh but delightful landscape of the island you will come across many fig and olive trees. Over the centuries the inhabitants have built numerous stonewalls for protection against the wind. You will bike on the narrow peninsula until you reach the sea, where the ship will be waiting to take you to Rab. The island of Rab is one of the sunniest places in Europe. The town of Rab, the fortified capital of the island, was built in the middle ages on a wedge-shaped headland, and marks one of the highlights of the trip. The four famous bell towers are the symbol of the adorned beauty of the town. After dinner you can explore the narrow alleys with numerous cosy cafés.
You will bike along the coast to the east side of the island, an area with virtually no vegetation, whose rough and cliffy rocks remind you of a lunar landscape. The road will lead you on to a bay with a sandy beach, which is rather atypical for the Kvarner islands. At lunchtime the ship will be waiting for you in the harbour directly in front of the old town of Rab. Afterwards you will be cycling on the green peninsula to the north of the island. In Lopar you will meet your ship again. After a swim-break the ship will take you over to the neighbouring island of Krk, where you will spend the evening in the historical town of Krk.
You will cycle over the ridge of the island, which is covered by fragrant macchia, to a valley of vineyards, and then onwards to the small museum town of Vrbnik in the northeast. The town, built on a 50-metre-high cliff and surrounded by vineyards, is the home of the famous white wine, Zlahtina. Another peculiarity that Vrbnik has to offer is the second narrowest alley in the world. The way will lead you on across the island through old villages and rich vegetation to Omišalj, from where Rijeka will be within sight. On the way, you will have a chance to swim in the bay of Soline. You will spend the last night in Omišalj.
After breakfast you say good bye to the crew and the tour leader and disembark by 9am.
Istria is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea, a region of almost eternal spring with comfortable temperatures and Mediterranean vegetation. Istria is the home of olives, figs, almonds, grapes and numerous other wonders.
Slavonic, Romanic and Germanic peoples meet here and cultures, customs and points of view merge into one. Despite the evident Italian past of Istria, there is not one road that leads to Rome, but all the roads lead into medieval little towns situated along the coast, up to small hills, to lonely churches, villages, inns and to the last craftsmen of dying trades.
Tour Rating
Easy to Moderate. A reasonable level of fitness is required.
Our Istria tour is one of the easier cycling tours in Croatia as there no climbs where you might have to push your bike. The highest hill is a mere 200m above sea level.
Daily routes routes average only 30km. The roads are mostly asphalted and there is little traffic outside of holiday periods.
You can decide every day for yourself whether you would like to cycle individually using the maps provided, or join one of the tour guides for a day of escorted touring.
Daily Itinerary
Day 1:
(Sun) Pula - Medulin - Bay of Banjole (approx. 30 km / 19 mi. by bicycle)
Individual arrival at Pula, the secret capital of Istria, a town full of impressive remains of its Roman past. From 11.00 hrs onward you can move into your cabins on the motor yacht. Your first bike tour takes you from the harbour along beautiful bays to the southern tip of Istria. From there you ride on a good asphalt road to Medulin, easily recognized from afar by its two white church towers. In the shady village square you take a short break for refreshments. From Medulin you bicycle to the bay of Banjole for the overnight.
Day 2:
(Mon) Vrsar - Porec (approx. 30 km/ 19 mi. by bicycle)
After breakfast you start on a ca. 3.5 hrs cruise to Vrsar, the town where lady-killer Casanova found temporary refuge from lovers pursuing him. Starting from Vrsar, you bike along the Lim fjord to Klostar in the hinterland. After a break - long enough to taste some fresh suckling pig - your route takes you to Porec. On a walk after dinner with your town guide, you encounter evidence of the town's eventful past at every step along the way, strolling through the charming historical centre, with its beautiful buildings of many different era's, and the bustling shopping lanes. The famous Euphrasius Basilica, with its gorgeous early-Christian mosaics, is also well-worth a visit.
Day 3: (Tue) Porec - Grosnjan - Umag (approx. 60 km / 19 mi. by bicycle)
Today's bike tour takes you from Porec through extensive vineyards to Visnjan, home of the famous white cattle. After a coffee break you continue through the gentle hills of the hinterland via Vizinada to the artists' village of Grosnjan. Along the way you have a fortifying picnic. Your destination is Umag, which offers a picturesque old town centre with the remains of a medieval city wall located on a promontory. Dinner on board.
Day 4 (Wed) Umag - Savudrija - Umag - Novigrad (approx. 20 + 15 km/12 + 10 mi. by bicycle)
In the morning you undertake a round trip to the Savudrija peninsula, the northernmost point of Istria. In favourable weather conditions you have an amazing view as far as Slovenia, Italy and even the Alps. On the way back to the ship, there are plenty of opportunities for a refreshing dip in the sea. In the afternoon you bike along quiet sea promenades from Umag to Novigrad. There you find the impressive crenellated city wall as well the 7th century Pelagius Basilica. Around the pretty harbour you find many cafes and bars, where you can end your day.
Day 5 (Thu) Novigrad - Porec - Vrsar (approx. 20 + 15 km/12 + 10 mi. by bicycle)
After breakfast you leave Novigrad and bicycle along the coast to Porec. Here you meet up with the ship and have time for a swim or another stroll through the wonderful old town centre. After lunch on board you continue along the coast to Vrsar, where you spend the night. Along the way you have a break at an open-air museum, where you can admire the sculptures of the famous stonemasonry school of Vrsar.
Day 6 (Fri) Rovinj - Palud (approx. 20 km / 12 mi. by bicycle)
Your ship takes you in the morning to Rovinj, often called the "pearl of Istria". The charm of this dreamy artists' town will quickly captivate you. After a round trip to the Palud Nature Reserve, you have plenty of time to enjoy the unique atmosphere of Rovinj. A town guide leads you after dinner through the maze of narrow lanes making up the old town.
Day 7 (Sat) Barbariga – Fazana - Brijuni Islands - Pula (approx. 20 km /12 mi. by bicycle)
After a short cruise to the bay of Barbariga, you unload your bikes there and cross with a ferry over to the Brijuni Islands. Until Tito's death in 1980, the paradise of the Brijuni Islands was a prohibited area accessible only to the government elite and their official guests. The island's sight-seeing train takes you to the remotest corners of this sub-tropical nature park with its lush vegetation and exotic fauna. On the way across the island you also visit with your local guide some well-preserved Roman excavations. In the evening you bicycle from Fazana to Pula, where dinner on board of the ship is already waiting for you.

SOUTHERN DALMATIA
8 Day Escorted Tour
South Dalmatia is the smallest region of Croatia with the lowest number of inhabitants. On your cycling tour you pass unique small towns and flourishing island landscapes. You see the wonderful island Korcula with its picturesquely situated old town, the winegrowing peninsula Pelijesac and the island Mljet with its impressive national park. The islands of South Dalmatia are higher than those of the Kvarner Bay and Central Dalmatia, which means that the bike-tours offer beautiful and long descents (and admittedly also quite a few ascents). Our tour guide leads you through towns that are well worth exploring, such as Trogir, Split, Hvar and Korcula, almost all of which are protected as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites.
Tour Character
Moderate to hilly. A good level of fitness is required. The daily routes of 30-60 km cover hilly terrain but can be completed without any time constraints. You will also come across some longer and rather steep climbs, where you might have to push your bike. You can skip a bike-tour and spend a day sunbathing on the ship if you wish.
You can decide every day for yourself whether you would like to cycle individually, using the maps provided, or join one of the tour guides.
Daily Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Trogir / Split (approx. 20 km)
Individual arrival in the picturesque harbour of Trogir, (about 5 km away from Split Airport). After checking in on the motor yacht before 2 p.m., the ship will take you away from the mainland to the island of Split. Your first bike-tour in the afternoon leads you to the mountain of Marjan, a recreation area of the inhabitants of the island. In the evening your tour guide will take you on a stroll through Split. Overnight stay in Split.
Day 2: Cetina Canyon (approx. 40 km)
The ship will take you to the island of Omis. You will bike from Omis through the valley of the Cetina river, which has dug itself deep into the cliffs. On little side roads and through diverse land-scapes you cycle back to Omis, with its pirate castles. In the afternoon you will cross over to the island of Brac. There you have a swim break and an optional bike tour from Pucisca. You will explore hands-on the famous white marble of Brac, which was used for building the White House in Washington and the parliament building in Berlin.
Day 3: Island of Brac (approx. 45 km)
The tour starts with a long, but moderate climb to the ridge of the island, whereby you will pass countless mulberry, kiwi and fig trees, pinewoods, olive groves and vineyards. The descent to the beach in Bol with impressive panoramic views on the neighbouring island of Hvar makes the ascent worthwhile. After lunch, you undertake a longer cruise to the island of Korcula, where you will spend the night in the capital of the island, the town of Korcula, which challenges Venice for the honour of being the birth place of Marco Polo.
Day 4: Peninsula Pelješac and Mljet (approx. 40/60 km)
Peljesac with its towering, nearly 1.000 m high, mountain massive of Sv. Ilja has been the impres-sive backdrop for the last two days of the tour. The morning ascent above the sea takes you up through Dalmatia’s most famous winegrowing area, home to renowned wines such as Plavac and Dinga, on your way to Trstenik. In the afternoon you will travel by ship to the island of Mljet. The green island of Mljet is also known as the “island of honey”. In the 12th century the Benedictines established a monastery in this beautiful isolated place, surrounded by woods of pine and holm oak trees. The local pine forest is supposed to be the most beautiful of its kind in the whole Mediterranean. Ulysses is supposed to have spent seven years here. You will bike along the saltwater lake of the island, in which there is yet another small island.
Day 5: Korcula (approx. 45 km)
The peace and isolation of the copious gardens with large cypresses characterises the image of this arguably most beautiful Dalmatian island. You will cycle along the 12 km long costal road to Racisce, where you have lunch. After pedalling the short distance to Pupnat, you continue on the old 200 m high mountain pass route above the bay of Pupnat to Blato. This town is built on seven hills like Rome. A night in the safe harbour of Vela Luka.
Day 6: Hvar (approx. 25 km)
After your arrival in the harbour of Hvar, you take a interesting city tour. You pass its large Ren-aissance square with the cathedral which is surrounded by many late gothic palaces. You can visit the historically important Spanish fortress, the cathedral and the old theatre.
During today's bike tour you will pass small island villages with picturesque stone houses, aligned like pearls on a chain. You reach the end of the bike-tour, the historical town of Stari Grad, on the nearly traffic-free mountain pass route.
Day 7: Solta (approx. 30 km)
Cruise to the island of Solta. On your last bike-tour you will see fields surrounded by ancient stone walls as well as numerous olive, fig and carob trees. The lavender and rosemary shrubs give the island its specific fragrance. In Maslinica you load your bikes onto the ship and enjoy the last crossing back to Trogir.
Day 8: Trogir
Departure by 9.00am

The nearest airport is Split, 10 minutes by taxi from the dock in Trogir (approx. $25)

NATIONAL PARKS OF CENTRAL DALMATIA
8 Day Escorted Tour
Central Dalmatia is our 'green' tour. The breathtaking beauty of the landscape is what makes this trip truly worthwhile. The islands are generally thinly populated, and apart from Trogir and Zadar, we will not be visiting any larger towns. The ship will be sailing up the Krka River as far as the waterfalls and into the National Park of Krka. South of the island Dugi Otok we will be sailing through the National Park of Kornati, where numerous small islands are located side by side.
Daily Itinerary
Day 1: Trogir - Šolta (approx. 20 km by bicycle)
Individual arrival to the picturesque harbor of Trogir (5km taxi from Split Airport to Trogir). After checking in on your yacht at Trogir and lunch on board, you first cruise begins.
We’ll be heading for Maslinica on the Island of Šolta. Walled fields, numerous olive groves, locust bean and fig trees line the roads. The herb smells of lavender and rosemary accompany us along our tour of this island leading us to the village Grohote.
Day 2: Rogoznica -
- Sibenik - Vodice (approx. 15 km/9 mi. by bicycle)
In the morning we will cycle from Rogoznica to Primošten. Our motor yacht will then take us through a narrow passage to Šibenik. After visiting the famous cathedral and the worth seeing old town, our ship will take off again and continue towards Vodice, where we stay tonight
Day 3: Vodice - Murter - Telascica (approx. 30 km/18 mi. by bicycle)
In the morning we cycle from Vodice to the island of Murter, which is connected with the mainland by a lift bridge. We will meet the ship for dinner in a romantic quiet harbor. In the afternoon we go on a cruise through the national park of the Kornati islands, an archipelago of crystal clear waters known for its diverse flora and fauna. In the peaceful atmosphere of the Telašcica nature park we go for a walk along the impressing cliffs of the island.
Day 4: Island of Dugi Otok - Zadar (35 km/22 mi. by bicycle)
Our bike tour begins in Telašcica Nature Park along a virtually traffic-free road. Along a panoramic road, we ride clear across the island. Afterwards the ship takes us to Zadar, which, for centuries, was the political, cultural and spiritual centre of Dalmatia. Our tour guide takes us on an extensive walk through the lanes of the lively old centre. 3000 years of history have left their imprint on the character of this town and there are many things to be admired: the mighty fortified walls with their bastions, the loggia but also the early Romanesque St. Donatus basilica. Overnight in the harbor of Zadar.

While we enjoy breakfast, our ship takes us to the island of Ugljan at the Zadar Canal. We bicycle along the east coast and cross a bridge to reach the island of Pašman. In the afternoon, the ship takes us further and further up the Krka River. In the evening we arrive in Skradin, from where we’ll explore the magnificent lower waterfalls of Krka in the national park of the Canyon of Krka, a geological peculiarity under protection. Here the Krka meanders the first 10 km through a flat region, followed by 40 km through canyons and then 20 km past lakes, which are connected with the Adriatic.
Day 6: Skradin - Island of Zlarin (ca. 30 km/18 mi. by bicycle)
Today we explore the Krka National Park on our bicycles. Through wooded valleys we ride to Lake Visovac. On an island in the lake is the Visovac Monastery. It was settled by Augustinian monks, who established a small monastery and church dedicated to the Apostle Paul in the 14th century.
After a swimming break we cycle back to Skradin through quiet villages. In the late afternoon we sail to the coral island of Zlarin. In the peaceful atmosphere of the island we spend a relaxing evening.
Day 7: Island of Zlarin - Trogir (approx. 45 km / 28 mi. by bicycle)
In the morning our motor yacht will take us to Rogoznica. We can choose between making a circuit along an ample bay or cycling to Trogir through small villages in the hinterland on roads with little traffic. The final descent will offer us a grand view of the coastline of Split. In the afternoon we can stroll through the narrow alleys of the Old town, protected as World Cultural Heritage, and devote our attention to the cultural side of the trip.
Day 8: Departure

DALMATIA FROM DUBROVNIK
8 Day Escorted Tour
If you would like to experience the region of South Dalmatia thoroughly, yet not wanting to miss Dubrovnik, this sail and bike trip is an excellent choice. Accompanied by our charming floating accommodation, you will get to know this sparsely populated part of Croatia, including the islands of Sipan, Korcula, Hvar, Mljet, Vis, Lastovo and Peljesac. The highlight of the trip is the town centre of Dubrovnik that is listed on UNESCO’s world heritage list with its imposing city wall and its narrow alleys.
Daily Itinerary
Day 1 (Sun) Embarkation at Dubrovnik and Sipan Island (approx. 10 km. by bicycle)
Individual arrival at Dubrovnik. After lunch, our journey begins with a short cruise to the island of Sipan, the largest of the Elefitian islands. A pleasant bike ride takes us in the afternoon past numerous luxury villas of the rich and noble of Dubrovnik, through green forests, fertile valleys and subtropical parks. Overnight on Sipan.
Day 2 (Mon) Mljet Island (approx. 30 + 12 kmi. by bicycle)
In the morning, the ship takes us on a 2-hour-crossing to the "honey island" of Mljet. Here, starting from the ferry harbor of Sobra, we bicycle to Pomena, where the ship awaits us for lunch. 90 % of Mljet Island is covered by forest and thus is one of the most densely wooded islands in the entire Mediterranean. Homer also mentions it in his Odyssee, making it the home of the nymph Calypso, who kept the famous hero here for seven years. A short bike trip in the afternoon takes us to Mljet National Park. In the 12th century, Benedictine monks founded a monastery here, in a fabulous location on a small island, which you can reach by a small excursion boat.
Day 3 (Tue) Island of Lastovo (approx. 30 km. by bicycle)
The day begins with a cruise to Lastovo Island. This island is one of the smallest inhabited islands in the Adriatic. Already the emperor Augustus appreciated its mild climate and in Roman times it was even named "Augusta Insula" after him. The islanders, little more than 1000, still live today mainly off fishing the extremely rich waters, agriculture and wine culture. Here grows the yellow-golden white wine "Marastina", which is known well beyond Croatia's borders. After an extensive exploration of the island, the ship takes us on a long cruise to Vis.
Day 4 (Wed) Island of Vis (approx. 30 km by bicycle)
Vis is the Croatian island located furthest from the mainland. 2000 years ago it was already a Greek colony by the name of Issa. On account of its strategically important location, it was along with Lastovo a military zone prohibited to foreign tourists until 1995. After lunch, the ship takes us to the island of Hvar. The island capital by the same name is one of the high points of every journey to Dalmatia. On a long walk we become acquainted with the beautiful medieval town centre and the citadel rising high above it. Afterwards we may end the day at our leisure in a cozy wine bar.
Day 5 (Thu) Korcula Island (approx. 40 km. by bicycle)
A morning cruise takes us to Korcula Island and the well known port of Vela Luka. From here we bicycle to Prigradica, where we meet the ship for lunch. In the afternoon we explore the eastern part of the island, which is counted among the most beautiful islands of Dalmatia. Destination of the ride is the capital of the island by the same name, which vies with Venice over the honor of being the birthplace of the famous explorer Marco Polo. In the evening we have enough time for a stroll through the alleys of this fantastic town.
Day 6 (Fri) Peljesac Peninsula (approx. 25 km by bicycle)
During breakfast on board, the ship takes us to the town of Orebic on the Pelješac Peninsula. Pelješac is impressive even from a distance because of the Sv. Ilja mountain range rising almost 1000 m high out of the sea. The bike tour takes us into the hinterland, past Dalmatia's most famous vineyard, where the wonderful Plavac and Dingac wines are grown, to Trstenik. From here the ship takes us to Slano on the mainland, where we stay the night.
Day 7 (Sat) Mainland around Slano and Dubrovnik (approx. 20 km by bicycle)
After breakfast and a cruise, the last bike trip of the journey begins. The town of Slano offers us either a beautiful but also somewhat strenuous tour into the hinterland or an easy promenade ride with time for swimming and relaxing until noon. After lunch, our floating abode makes fast in Dubrovnik, so that we’ll have enough time to participate in the guided tour through this town listed as a World Heritage site and for a walk to the impressive city walls. After the Captain's dinner, we say goodbye to the crew and our tour guides.
Day 8 (Sun) Disembarkation at Dubrovnik
Disembarkation around 9 am and individual departure or extend your stay in Croatia.
Tour Character
Moderate to hilly. A good level of fitness is required. The daily routes of 20-40 km cover hilly terrain but can be completed without any time constraints. You will also come across some longer and rather steep climbs, where you might have to push your bike. You can skip a bike tour and spend a day swimming and sunbathing from the ship if you wish.
You can decide every day for yourself whether you would like to cycle individually, using the maps provided, or join one of the tour guides.
