The people are very friendly and gracious, but Vietnam, although rapidly developing, is still a third world country, especially outside the main cities. The road surfaces are often not of a western standard. Be prepared to share the road with scooters, school children on bikes, bullocks, chickens, rice crops drying, and other traffic.
