BRITTANY COAST
7 day independent tour
350 km of rugged cliffs of the “Côtes d’Armor” in the north of Brittany, with rocky or sandy beaches, pink or black rocks and twice a day the play of tides. The Côtes d’Armor is home to uncountable sea birds, wild flowers and a rich and mysterious history. Starting with first settlements in the Neolithic Age the population underwent many changes of cultures. Celtic tribes left their influence as well as a deeply pious Christian population.
The walking tour leads from East to West, almost exclusively following old customs trails from Goêlo coast to the pink rock coast. Artichoke fields to the sea, then a lighthouse, a village or a cauliflower field, tractors at work, tang as fertilizer etc. The trail is very well marked and maintained.
Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1: Individual arrival at Paimpol
Day 2: Paimpol – l’Ile de Brehat
The first two nights we stay in Paimpol. During the 19th century local fishermen earned their living with cod fishing in Island and Norway. This sometimes deadly way of life formed the identity of Paimpol and the inhabitants. On the first day you can chose between visiting Beaufort Abbey, dating back to the 13th century, or 4 hours walk on the picturesque island of Bréhat, only 10 min away by boat.
Day 3: Paimpol – Treguier
By taxi to the very tip of the peninsula to Sillon de Talbert. Here you set off on your walk on the edge of a marvellous coast to Tréguier on river Jaudy, where you stay overnight.
Day 4: Treguier – Port-Blanc
The tour around Plougrescant peninsula is a special highlight for all nature-lovers. Wild flowers such as heather, gorse, orchids and poppy are everywhere. At Port-Blanc you can take a well earned swim, walk along the beach and enjoy sunset from the hotel terrace. It is said that the famous fairy Morgiane spent some time as a whale in the sea of Port-Blanc.
Day 5: Port-Blanc – Perros-Guirec
You follow the trail to Perros-Guirrec, always along the coast, through numerous small hamlets with beautiful gardens. Typical for Brittany, these gardens are all year round in full splendour of mimosas, camellias, geraniums etc. The last two nights we spend in Perros-Guierrec, a well known holiday resort of North Brittany.
Day 6: Perros-Guirec – 7 Islands - Ploumanach
Opposite our hotel, seven islands are scattered in the sea and the choice is difficult. Best time to visit the archipelago is early in the morning. One of the oldest bird sanctuaries of France is home to penguins, gulls and other sea birds. On the way back a beautiful walk along the coast of “pink granite rocks” to the picture book harbour of Ploumanach rounds off the day.
Day 7: Individual departure or spend extra days in Brittany
