Three countries, three cultures and a wonderful Mediterranean climate await you in the Rhine valley between the Alps, Black Forest and the Vosges Mountains. Comfortable routes take you to wonderful destinations, which alone make the trip worthwhile.
Arriving in Basel. Installation at the hotel and free visit of the city.
The Rhine Bike Path, ideal for cycling. Your daily stage full of atmosphere takes you to Müllheim, small German town of Baden Württemberg.
A dirt track runs along the Rhine towards the north German side. In this step you will visit the Villa Urbana and Castle Malteserschloss Heitersheim. The pretty spa town of Bad Krozigen is located at the gate of the Black Forest . From there , you will drive to Freiburg , in the heart of Freiburg.
By the cycle track “Breisgauradweg” you will drive to the border town of Breisach on the Rhine. French side you will discover the Vauban military architecture in Neuf-Brisach before reaching Colmar, capital of wine, its museums and its historical center.
Colmar you will cross the eastern Alsace plain west to join your first Eguisheim wine village at the foot of the Vosges mountains. Here bask wine villages that are the hallmark of the great wines of Alsace Eguisheim, Turckheim, Kaysersberg, Riquewihr.
Along the Wine Road you will discover the villages of Hunawihr, Ribeauvillé, Bergheim, Andlau and its Romanesque abbey and finally Barr or Obernai.
A Rosheim you will not fail to discover the St. Peter and Paul church a jewel of Romanesque architecture in Alsace. A Molsheim you will reach the bike path Bruche canal that takes you to the heart of the European capital.
Moderate difficulty tour. Mostly flat rides with some short uphill stretches through the vineyards.Days 3, 4 and 6 are little bit hilly. You cycle on dedicated cycle paths and some quiet country roads. Suitable for novice and experienced cyclists alike. Total distance: about 255 km
The nearest major airport is Zurich. There is an easy train connection to Basel city centre ($35.00). The first hotel is about 100m from the station!
