The Catalan coastal region of Empordà has its own distinct personality. The artist Salvador Dali was born here, and the landscape inspired him. The route leads you through vineyards, along the Costa Brava, through the city of Figueres as well as through the national park Aiguammolls de l’Empordà… simply the best of Empordà! The route starts in the Catalan city of Girona, a wonderful old city with a lot of sights worth visiting. Then your route leads on to the Costa Brava and finally to L’Estartit. L’Estartit is a nice small town near the beach, next to the Medas islands, which is a real paradise for divers. Your round trip leads you to “La Gola del Ter” (the maw of the Ter), the water mouth of River Ter into the Mediterranean Sea and to several small medieval villages. From L’Escala you follow the coastline to Roses. The Mediterranean Sea is on your right side and you cycle along the bay of Roses which is one of the most beautiful experiences on the Costa Brava. Enjoy the promenade, the beach, the citadel as well as the lighthouse in Roses. You can visit the wine museum and taste the wines. Finally you cycle through vineyards, olive groves and alongside the last reaches of the Pyrenees. On your last day you continue through small and very old villages on to Figueres. Enjoy the impressive view onto the Pyrenees, for sure the best way to end this journey.
Today you have time to visit the beautiful old town with the Jewish district, the cathedral and the bridges over the Onyar river.
The route leads via cycle paths and small roads to the Costa Brava and L’Estartit. Highlights of the route are the beach of L’Estartit, the Medas islands and the water mouth of river Ter.
This loop tour leads you to “La Gola del Ter”, the water mouth of river Ter into the Mediterranean Sea and through small villages. Highlights of the day are the medieval villages of Pals, Peratellada, and Ullastret as well as the wonderful beaches.
Today you follow mainly the coast and its beaches. The Mediterranean Sea is located on your right hand side and offers wonderful views along the Costa Brava. Enjoy the promenade, the beach, the citadel as well as the lighthouse in Roses. Highlights: L´Escala, the ruins of Empùries, the bay of Roses, and the many beaches along the route.
On this loop tour you cycle through vineyards and olive groves along the last extensions of the Pyrenees. You can visit the wine museum in Roses and taste the wines of the region. The highlights along this route are the beautiful vineyards.
You cycle through small, medieval villages on to Figueres. The Pyrenees are located on your right hand side, for sure the best view to end your tour. Highlights: the route along river Muga and the vineyards.
The tour is rated easy with mainly flat stages, with only a few short sections a bit hillier. Most of the time you will pedal on cycling paths and on lightly trafficked side roads. However, some short connecting roads may be busier. The pathways are predominantly paved but some earth cycling paths will be encountered as well.
Connecting flights go into Barcelona and Girona. The first hotel is just a 5 minute walk from Girona Rail Station.
