Are you looking for an entry-level route for occasional cyclists and want to admire the magnificent, majestic landscape of Austria? Then Eurobike has just the trip for you! The seven-day cycle tour travels from Innsbruck to Salzburg and through the Alps and valleys of western Austria. Tyrolean customs paired with regal Salzburg make this trip a real gem for culture lovers.
From Innsbruck you cycle comfortably along the Inn cycle path with the towering Nordkette mountain range as your constant companion. Then it’s off to the idyllic Zillertal and over the Gerlos alpine road by bus. On day four you will reach the Tauern cycle path, which is the best developed in the Salzburg area. On the route: the largest waterfalls in Europe, embedded into a unique landscape. Along the Salzach river you cycle to Zell am See and the Zeller Lake, where you can see the reflection of the snow-covered Kitzteinhorn. Your last river companion on the bike tour is the Saalach, until you finally arrive in Salzburg.
Highlights of the tour at a glance:
The roaring Krimml waterfalls: Experience the unrestrained power of water up close and listen as it plummets 380 meters towards earth!
Hohe Tauern National Park with fairy tale mountain scenery: Three thousand meter peaks, breathtaking scenery – and you are in the thick of it. The largest conservation area in Central Europe is home to the mightiest peaks in Austria, and the largest glacial areas of the Eastern Alps.
Tour briefing and distribution of the bikes. Tourists come to Innsbruck to see the world famous Bergisel Ski Jump and the Golden Roof.
You head to Wattens with the steeply towering North Chain of the Karwendel mountains at your side. You will pass through the saline town of Hall with its historical Mint tower. Here you can visit the enchanting Swarovski Crystal Worlds. You then cycle along the Inn cycle path past Schwaz, where there is a silver mine until you get to the cycling village of Strass.
You cycle along the easy-going Zillertal bike path until you get to Zell or even a bit further along to the well-known Mayrhofen. Whilst doing so, you have an amazing mountain view of the Zillertal main ridge with its huge peaks over 3000m high. A bus will provide you with a transfer in the early afternoon over the Gerlospass to Krimml. Already during this journey, you will be able to admire Europe’s biggest waterfall, which you can then also view by foot on a high path later on.
Today’s stage runs through the Hohe Tauern national park and Upper Pinzgau. Whilst doing so, you will have snow topped mountains in sight. With the view alternating between lush green meadows and small villages, today’s cycle offers you truly magical scenery. In Kaprun you can visit the Kaprun high mountain reservoirs.
It is highly recommended for you to take a refreshing swim in Lake Zell, which is also an opportunity for any sporty cyclists among you to go for an extra spin. You quickly arrive in Saalfelden via Maria Alm where there is a famous pilgrimage church. This is a great place for you to enjoy lunch. Further highlights on your way to Lofer include the Seisenbergklamm (gorge) and the Lamprechtshöhle (caves) near Weißbach.
On your last day’s cycle you cycle through the tranquil Saalach valley. Bad Reichenhall will captivate you with its bavarian flair. You only have a little bit further to go before arriving in the Mozart City of Salzburg. The cultural here is sure to impress. You should have enough time for a stroll around the old town and to visit Mozart’s birth house.
The tour is rated easy with mainly flat stages along the river banks. The pathways are predominantly paved but hardpack gravel cycling paths will be encountered as well.
International flights go directly into Innsbruck. Another good option is Munich, a mere 2 hour train ride away. Salzburg has a major airport for your departure flight.aa
