This classic tour takes you round the entire lake showing off all of its highlights along the way as well as the historic towns of Constance, Stein am Rhein, Meersburg and Lindau and the festival town of Bregenz. Take the time along the route to discover the beauty of Lake Constance and explore the area, as well as a detour to the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen.
DAY TO DAY ITINERARY
You will begin your trip in Constance, which is the largest town on Lake Constance, and is still quite Medieval in character to this day. In 1414, the town hosted the only church council ever to take place north of the Alps. A small museum is dedicated to the Czech reformer Jan Hus, who was burnt at the stake here. The symbol of the city is the statue of Imperia, which is a memorial to the prostitutes of the council time. The aquariums of the Sea Life Center are also worth a visit, as is the Archaeological Museum. Overnight stay in Constance/Kreuzlingen
On your way to Überlingen you pass through the old imperial city Radolfzell and then cycle across the “Bodanrück“.
Today you can visit the island Werd with its small Franciscan monastery. You stay along the Lake – enjoy the small Swiss fishing villages with its beautiful houses. Via Constance you cycle to the island Mainau – we recommend to visit this gorgeous island. By ship you continue to Wallhausen and Überlingen.
Today you cycle to Lindau and Bregenz, which is famous for its annual festivals on the biggest outdoor stage of the world (located on the Lake). Afterwards you cross the Rhine delta – an important nature reserve. Your overnight stay is in the region of Höchst (Austria), or Rorschach (Switzerland.
You cycle through the Canton of Thurgau with its huge apple orchards. The route takes you through small villages back to Constance.
Through picturesque Swiss fishing villages along the South shore of the Untersee via Stein am Rhein to Schaffhausen.
Today you cycle to the Rhine Falls, the largest European waterfalls. On the other side of the Rhine back to Stein am Rhein and along the “Höri“ to Gaienhofen and by boat to Reichenau Island. From there back to Constance.
After breakfast your Lake Constance cycling tour comes to an end and you may begin your journey home. We would also be more than happy to extend your stay in Europe.
Paved cycle paths and quiet backstreets along the lakeshore; a few hills during the first 2 stages; suitable for experienced and novice cyclists.
