On board of the Panagiota, a two-masted wooden motor sailer, this multi-adventure cruise takes us to the Ionian Islands spread out along the west coast of Greece. Here we see Hellas at its greenest. The journey takes us from Corfu and its Venetian-style Old Town and its Sissi-castle, to Lefkas, Cephalonia and Ithaca, the alleged home of Odysseus. On Meganisi and Paxos – an island all covered in olive trees – where time seems to have stood still, we may have unforgettable insights into traditional Greek island life.
For seven days we explore the unique island and coastal world by ship, canoe, bicycle and on foot. This family-friendly cruise leaves a lot of room for fun, games and spontaneity. Biking, hiking, canoeing, swimming or relaxing on board: You decide each day what you feel like doing. Our tour guide is familiar with the country and gladly gives advises and makes suggestions, accompanies us at the various activities and can tell us a lot about the lively history of Greece.
DAY TO DAY ITINERARY
1st Day (Sat) Corfu Island (Embarkation)
Individual arrival at Corfu and collective transfer from the airport to the ship. At 2 pm you can start checking in on the Panagiota. The tour begins with a joint dinner on board. Overnight in Corfu town.
2nd Day (Sun) Corfu Island – Parga
After breakfast, a transfer bus is waiting to take us to the nearby Sissi-castle Achilleion which Austria’s unforgotten empress had built around 1890 on Corfu, her dream island. Afterwards we return to the ship and off we go! We cross over to Parga on the west coast of the Greek mainland. The town is beautifully located below a Venetian fortification complex built in 1570 that we will climb on our afternoon’s walk. A stroll through the lively alleys of Parga’s old town as well as a swim at the nearby sandy beach may complete our day.
3rd Day (Mon) Parga – Lefkas Island
After a fairly long cruise we reach the narrow channel – spanned by a quaint swing bridge – that separates the island of Lefkas from the mainland. Before landing in Nidri in the early afternoon,we make a stop for swimming off Skorpios, the private island that was former owned by the family of the shipping magnat Onassis. Starting from Nidri we bicycle 2.5mi./4 km along small asphalt roads to a waterfall. With some luck, it still carries enough water for a refreshing dip. We spend the evening and the night in Nidri.
4th Day (Tue) Lefkas Island – Cephalonia Island
In the morning we have the opportunity to go on a 14 mi./23 km–long cycle tour, sometimes along lonely roads, leading via Sivros across the mountains to the pretty port of Vasiliki. After lunch on board we make a stop for swimming at Porto Katsiki, one of the best-known beaches in Greece, lying directly below the Lefkadian Rock. Then we continue by boat to Fiskardo on the island of Cephalonia. This port, located at the northern tip of the island, delights us with its colourful little houses and many cafes and bars along the picturesque harbour promenade. An evening walk of approx. 30 minutes takes us to a pretty lighthouse. Overnight in Fiskardo.
5th Day (Wed) Cephalonia Island – Meganisi Island
After a short crossing by boat we reach the harbour of Agia Efimia, featured in the Hollywood blockbuster, ‘’Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’’. Today’s bike tour starts here and leads us along the coastline to the enchanting Melissani Cave; accessible only by row boat. A visit to the Drogerati cave, is next on the agenda before the tour takes us back to the boat. The boat meets us in Sami and takes us for a well-deserved swim break! Our journey then takes us further to Meganisi, a charming island where we spend the night.
6th Day (Thu) Meganisi Island – Paxos Island
After breakfast we have the chance to explore Meganisi on our bike. Afterwards a long crossing will take us to the Island of Paxos. On the way we will take a swim stop in front of Antipaxos. Paxos is the smallest of the Ionian Islands. The unique natural harbour of Gaios has its own very special island atmosphere. In the afternoon we can explore the pretty harbour on foot or we may cycle to a nearby beach on this adorable little island. In the evening we can enjoy ourself in one of the cozy tavernas in Gaios.
7th Day (Fri) Paxos Island – Corfu Island
On today’s 14 mi./23 km-long tour we can cycle once around the whole island of Paxos. On our way we visit also the olive-press-museum at Magazia – the cultivation of olives was for centuries the island’s economic backbone. On one of the many beaches we can enjoy once more a refreshing swim in the Mediterranean Sea. After lunch, the Panagiota takes us back to Corfu Town where, after dinner on board, you may end your tour leisurely with an evening in the romantic historical town centre.
8th Day (Sat) Corfu Island (Disembarkation)
After breakfast, check-out, collective transfer to the airport and individual return home, or holiday extension on the island of Corfu.
