This hiking holiday in the Bernese Oberland canton of Switzerland follows the Bear Trek (Trail ) and is available as a level 2-3 independent walking tour. Discover alpine Switzerland at its best with six days walking on the Bear Trek, crossing spectacular passes and scrambling along grand glaciers. The Bear-Trek passes through valleys and gorges, past the “Three Proud Switzermen” Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau to the beautiful Swiss holiday villages of Adelboden and Lenk. Well, actually you won’t meet any bears on this trek nowadays. The name of this route comes from the time when the region was wilderness and the territory of bears and wolfs. Today hikers immerse into nature and breathe in the spectacular scenery. Crossing several passes on your way to summits, you are rewarded for your alpinist stamina by the imposing and beauty of the Alps!
A number of alternative routes are available, if you feel tired or the weather suddenly changes. Often the daily stages can be shortened by covering some distance by public bus or chair lift.
Take the post bus to Rosenlaui, where the first route commences via Große Scheidegg to Grindelwald, always with the magnificent panorama of the Threesome Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Walking time: approx. 4.5 hrs.
Start the day with an ascent to Kleines Scheidegg. You are free to make an excursion to Jungfraujoch. Follow the steep path past spectacular Trümmelbach falls, down to Lauterbrunnen (easier option: downhill to Lauterbrunnen via Wengen or train Kleine Scheidegg – Lauterbrunnen). Walking time: approx. 6.5 hrs.
Take to cable car to Mürren. The route crosses Sefinenfurgge, which often is snow covered until early summer. Enjoy marvellous alpine scenery. Walking time: approx. 7 hrs.
Today you join the Queen’s stage – a climb up to Blüemlisalp. After a long and steep ascent up to 2.843 m the alpine cabin on Blüemlisalp offers sustaining meals. Via Hohtürli and the moraines of Blüemlialp glacier you walk down to Öschinen Lake. Continue to Kandersteg (alternative from Öschinen Lake: take the cable car downhill). Walking time: approx. 7.5 hrs.
Take the mountain railway up to Allmenalp, then ascent to Benderchrinde. A stunning panorama view of the surrounding summits is a well earned reward. Continue downhill to Adelboden. Walking time: approx. 5.5 hrs.
Today you have the choice how to end your Bear Trek
Option 1: Easy walking tour via Hahnenmoos to Lenk.
Option 2: By post bus and cable car up to Engstligenalp. Walk across Ammetengrat, past Simmenfalls to Lenk. Walking time: approx. 4.5 hrs.
